What are chips in FPL?

Chips in FPL are tools that managers can use to temporarily improve certain elements of their fantasy teams.

There are four chips man in FPL: the Bench Boost, the Triple Captain, the Free Hit and the Wildcard.

FPL managers get just one Bench Boost, Triple Captain and Free Hit to be used on any Gameweek throughout the season.

There are two Wildcards: one in the first half of the season and one in the second half of the season.

A good FPL chip strategy is essential for managers looking for their best season yet.

NEW FOR 2024: Mystery Chip

FPL announced the creation of a new ‘Mystery Chip’ ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The details of this are limited so far. We only know that it will be playable from January and more details will be announced in the run up to to it going live.

We’ll have an article out covering the Mystery Chip as soon as new information emerges.

The Bench Boost chip in FPL

The Bench Boost allows you to score points from your four benched players as well as your 11 starting players for one gameweek. For more information, read our guide above on what the FPL Bench Boost is and when to use it.

The Triple Captain chip in FPL

The Triple Captain chip gives you treble the number of points on your chosen captain for one gameweek, rather than the usual double. Use our guide to learn more about what the Triple Captain in FPL is and when to use it.

The Free Hit chip in FPL

The Free Hit chipgives you the freedom to make unlimited transfers during a gameweek, but unlike the Wildcard, the transfers will be reversed next gameweek. We already have a thorough explanation of what the Free Hit chip is in FPL and when to use it.

The Wildcard chip in FPL

The Wildcard chip allows you to make unlimited transfers within your team’s budget twice across the course of the season. Our guide on what the Wildcard is and when to use it is an essential read for new managers.
